Sisters. They share a special bond that is impossible to describe. It can only be felt and understood by the sisters who share it. They go through life together as a team, helping and supporting each other Through whatever this world has destined for them. They will never give up on each other, For giving up on your sister means giving up on yourself. They smile together, laugh together, Lie for each other, lie to each other and cry together. Your sister is the one person you can confide your whole self to, the one person who understands. She is the person who will stand by your side until the very end. She has and always will be there for you during all the times in your life, Whether they be happy or sad. A sister is someone who knows you better than you know yourself. She is someone you can't imagine your life without, And just the thought of it makes you want to cry. She is someone who knows you're not okay, even when you say you are. Your sister is and always will be your very best friend.
Everyday it seems like a dark clouds
surrounds me. It started when i diagnosed with the disease that really affects
me, my whole life and even my family. Its been so hard for me to trust people
and sometimes i hate my honesty. I hope that i lied at the very beginning and
nobody will stare at me as if i am a monster and talked back about me.
During
my depression i don't know where to go but God is only my strength and i talked
to Him always. I lost my confident to everyone including myself. I try to
conceal my feelings and i want to disappear to a place that no one knows. Some
people don't bully a person verbally but intelligently i can guess through
their action and action is louder than words.
I am
bullied everyday, and I cry almost every night not wanting to go out next morning. family gathering are the worst. You have the whole weekend without bullies
and all these meanpeople, and then family gathering comes, and I cry longer than I do on
weeknights. Being bullied by the family is enough, but I always the topic of people when i passed by. The only reason I am being bullied
and being disrespected is because of a disease common with me. I really am not trying to be rude on this, but people understand what I am taking through. But every time I try to have time by
myself, they always thinks that I am not deserve to be their friends with them again and they starts
insulting me.It's too much to handle. I need to stand up for my self once and
for all if i can get the courage.
After being called
disgusting, a whore, a slut, nasty, and etc. ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. You start to
think that of yourself too. You say to yourself "I AM worthless. Nobody
cares about me. Maybe I should just kill myself, so I won't have to suffer
anymore." I’m still getting bullied, every day. But every day it's someone
different. I'm becoming weak, and I'm not sure what to do.
I just wanted to share
this because bullying is no joke and you'll never know how I feel until you've
experienced it for yourself! I WANNA RAISE AWARENESS and i want to start in community!
Hypertension is defined as sustained elevation of systemic arterial pressure beyond 140/90 mmHg in an adult. It is usually a chronic medical condition, which leads to damage the blood vessels of various organs including brain, heart, kidney, eye etc. Management of a hypertensive individual includes maintenance of optimal blood pressure as well as routine screening and attending to its secondary adverse effects on organs.
Hypertension is graded as following according to its severity
Category
Systolic (mmHg)
Diastolic(mmHg)
Normal
<120
<80
Pre-hypertension
120-139
80-89
Grade 1 hypertension
140-159
90-99
Grade 2 hypertension
160-179
100-110
Grade 3 hypertension
>180
>110
Isolated systolic hypertension
>140
>90
Hypertension can be broadly classified in to two groups, • Primary (essential) – hypertension without underlying identifiable cause. 90- 95% of all hypertensive individuals belong to this category.
• Secondary – hypertension arises due to an underlying medical condition (e.g. kidney disease, SLE, blood vessel diseases etc.). 5-10% of hypertensives belong to this category.
Though hypertension runs a chronic cause in majority; sometimes blood pressure goes out of control, rapidly rising over 180/120mmHg within a short time. This is called a hypertensive crisis. Unlike chronically elevated blood pressure this accelerated phase rapidly damages the blood vessels all over the body affecting many systems and bringing about severe consequences.
Causes of hypertensive crisis–
• Missing doses of blood pressure medication • Stroke • Renal failure • Heart failure • Pre – eclampsia and eclampsia in pregnant.
Signs and symptoms of hypertensive crisis-
• Most of the time asymptomatic • Lightheadedness • Vertigo and dizziness • Severe headache • Severe chest pain • Shortness of breathing • Nausea and vomiting • Tinnitus • Fainting episodes • Seizures • Severe anxiety • Loss of consciousness • Other symptoms related to secondary condition.
These symptoms are non – specific and rarely indicate hypertension as a cause. But first aid training courses should emphasize the value of measuring blood pressure in individuals claim to have these symptoms. Simple handheld electronic blood pressure monitors can be used for this task at community level.
Before measurement of blood pressure patient should rest for 20 minutes. Patient should be seated or lying down with correct sized blood pressure cuff applied to upper arm at the level of heart.
Consequences of hypertensive crisis-
• Heart attack • Heart failure • Kidney damage/failure • Transient ischemic attack • Stroke – due to rupture of brain aneurysms. • Progressive vision loss • Pulmonary edema – fluid buildup on lungs • Convulsions • Loss of consciousness
The primary modality of hypertensive crisis treatment is aggressive intravenous anti – hypertensive medication in order to bring blood pressure down. This is carried out in hospital following referral to urgent medical attention in these patients. Still there is some place in first aid measures that can be used to prevent/manage these complications while waiting for medical help to arrive; increasing the chances of the patient to make a complete recovery without any morbidity.
First aid management-
1. Reassure the patient and call for medical help.
2. Make him/her to lie on the bed and rest adequately.
3. Try to comfort and reduce anxiety, as anxiety alone can increase blood pressure.
4. Keep monitoring breathing, pulse rate, blood pressure, level of consciousness and for any other dangerous signs ( e.g. paralysis of body in stroke, convulsions etc.)
5. Do not allow them to walk about, accompany the patient if it is really needed. Watch out for falls.
6. If the patient is vomiting or having seizures, turn to lateral side to prevent aspiration.
7. If patient complains of difficulty in breathing, prop him/her up using pillows behind upper back.
8. Do not give anything by mouth to eat/drink if there is suspicion of stroke.
9. Specially avoid caffeine or alcohol containing beverages.
10. Meanwhile look for possible cause for hypertensive crisis. If the patient is a known hypertensive and missed medication, consult doctor over the phone and give a dose of medications if instructed.
11. If breathing is unsatisfactory go for basic life support. Mouth to mouth breathing and CPR if needed.
The first stanza tells about a great dream that could be related to fulfilling a lifelong dream or to a search for acceptance. The song Go the Distance was used in the film Hercules as a reflection of Hercules’ quest for acceptance and later on he found out he is the son of Zeus. Relating this stanza to my personal experience as a teenager, I am also dreaming of achieving my dreams and be successful someday. I would only be fully happy when I know that the people around me, especially my family and friends, are also proud of my achievements just like what the song says, “where’s a hero’s welcome would be waiting for me”, “where the crowds will cheer”, and “and a voice keeps saying this is where I’m meant to be”.
In the second stanza, the song tells about knowing a dream can be achieved someday and that a way will lead towards that dream if along the journey he will remain strong and surely every step of the way will all be worthwhile. For me, I know someday I can reach my dream. I need to have the strength and courage and for sure I will find my way to fulfill my dream. My journey is still long but I am sure to enjoy every step until I reach my destination.
The third stanza reflects the part of the journey towards achieving a dream wherein the path being taken seems like an unknown road, nothing seems to be sure if it will really lead towards the goal destination. It says, “though the road may wander, it will lead me to you”. Indeed, keeping the faith, the road towards my dream may be unknown and maybe at some point I might also doubt the path, I know that with my strong perseverance and great hope, I can reach my dream someday. “It may take a lifetime but somehow I’ll see it through” is a representation of what kind of attitude each one of us should posses. I should not lose hope and just give up during the times when it seems like I am not getting anywhere because as long as I am taking steps I will surely get there someday no matter how long it will take.
The fourth stanza sets the right attitude of not giving up and never losing hope. The journey towards reaching my dream can be compared to climbing an uphill slope. It will never be easy because I need to stay focused and I should not look back because it will make it harder to focus, instead I should keep my eye on the ultimate goal which is to reach the top for my journey to be completed.
In the next line it says, “to look beyond the glory is the hardest part”. I think it means that although we have a great dream, it is still hard to look beyond the fulfillment of that dream. It is like wondering what is at the rainbow’s end. It is not enough that I hold onto my dream, I should be equipped with hope, perseverance, courage, and strength because as the song goes “for a hero’s strength is measured by his heart”. I should posses a strong heart that never gives up, a heart that never loses hope no matter how tough the situations may be. I have always believed that only those with brave hearts finish the journey towards their dreams.
Just like in the previous line, this last stanza represents the dreamer as a shooting star. On this note, a shooting star travels across the sky “searching the world”. The line “I will face its harms”, relating to a shooting star, means that the shooting star is uncertain of the danger he may encounter along his search of the world, uncertain of how far the end of the journey is, but he will not mind and will face everything until he finds the hero’s welcome he has been longing for.
I used to say that reaching my dreams is like reaching for the stars. Through this song I realized that it could also be like climbing an uphill slope and searching the world like a shooting star. No matter how and to what I compare my journey towards my dreams would be like, one thing is certain, it is the fact that I can only reach my dreams if I posses a strong heart that never gives up, never loses hope, equipped with perseverance and courage. My victory is sweeter if I see people around me, especially my family and friends, cheering, rejoicing, and proud of my achievements and comforting me in the lowest part of my life. Only then I can say that my journey is complete.
My observation for the positive effects of parent involvement on children, families, and school when schools and parents continuously support and encourage the children's learning and development. According to to my observation "the most accurate predictor of a student's achievement in school is not income or social status but the extent to which that student's family is able to:
Create a home environment that encourages learning
Express high (but not unrealistic) expectations for their children's achievement and future careers
Become involved in their children's education at school and in the community.
My reviewed and analyzed students in my neigborhood studies that documented the comprehensive benefits of parent involvement in children's education. This and other studies show that parent involvement activities that are effectively planned and well implemented result in substantial benefits to children, parents, educators, and the school.
Benefits for the Children
Children tend to achieve more, regardless of ethnic or racial background, socioeconomic status, or parents' education level.
Children generally achieve better grades, test scores, and attendance.
Children consistently complete their homework.
Children have better self-esteem, are more self-disciplined, and show higher aspirations and motivation toward school.
Children's positive attitude about school often results in improved behavior in school and less suspension for disciplinary reasons.
Fewer children are being placed in special education and remedial classes.
Children from diverse cultural backgrounds tend to do better when parents and professionals work together to bridge the gap between the culture at home and the culture in school.
Junior high and high school students whose parents remain involved usually make better transitions and are less likely to drop out of school.
Benefits for the Parents
Parents increase their interaction and discussion with their children and are more responsive and sensitive to their children's social, emotional, and intellectual developmental needs.
Parents are more confident in their parenting and decision-making skills.
As parents gain more knowledge of child development, there is more use of affection and positive reinforcement and less punishment on their children.
Parents have a better understanding of the teacher's job and school curriculum.
When parents are aware of what their children are learning, they are more likely to help when they are requested by teachers to become more involved in their children's learning activities at home.
Parents' perceptions of the school are improved and there are stronger ties and commitment to the school.
Parents are more aware of, and become more active regarding, policies that affect their children's education when parents are requested by school to be part of the decision-making team.
Benefits for the Educators
When schools have a high percentage of involved parents in and out of schools, teachers and principals are more likely to experience higher morale.
Teachers and principals often earn greater respect for their profession from the parents.
Consistent parent involvement leads to improved communication and relations between parents, teachers, and administrators.
Teachers and principals acquire a better understanding of families' cultures and diversity, and they form deeper respect for parents' abilities and time.
Teachers and principals report an increase in job satisfaction.
Benefits for the School
Schools that actively involve parents and the community tend to establish better reputations in the community.
Schools also experience better community support.
School programs that encourage and involve parents usually do better and have higher quality programs than programs that do not involve parents.
